Prof.
Bashir Fagge, the Provost, Federal College of Education (Technical), Bichi, has
described art treasures as catalyst for boosting entrepreneurial drive in the
country.
Fagge said
this on Monday while speaking at a solo art exhibition organised by a lecturer
at the Department of Fine and Applied Arts on Monday at the College Campus in
Bichi.
According
to him, arts treasures can effectively be harnessed and exploited for the
purpose of revenue generation.
Fagge said
that conducting such a solo exhibition was a stepping stone towards achieving
the goal of entrepreneurial development.
“The
realisation of the goals for establishing viable enterprises in the public
domain and the ivory tower depends on the capacity and resolve of individuals
willing to accord a high impetus to the issue of research.
“This can
enhance scholarship in various field of human endeavour, exploiting arts
potentials is a major step forward.”
Dr Aliyu
Muhammad, Senior Lecturer, Department of Fine Arts, Ahmadu Bello University,
Zaria, said that the solo exhibition was the first of its kind to be showcased
by an individual since the department took off in 2008.
“Art is
literally a mirror of the artist’s mind, a reflection of his imagination and
art communicates diverse ideas to diverse people regardless of the artist’s
real purpose for its creation.
“Every
object of arts tells stories of its making, the story that illustrates it, the
story that the artist attached to it and the story that the viewer attached to
it.”
He said
that Oluwaseun’s art work was not only unique but was an innovation, refreshing
and welcomed within the context of contemporary Nigerian art fora.
He threw a
challenge to fashion/textile designers, painters, graphics, ceramists and
artists to emulate the wisdom of Oluwaseun and do better in their respective
areas of specialisations.
Mr Osiboye
Oluwaseun said that both traditional and contemporary treasures had been
properly utilised to the advantage of those seeking to enhance and promote art
for entrepreneurial purposes.
He said
that the exhibition was meant to showcase what an individual could do to give
human face to research and innovations. (NAN)
