Gbong Gom of Jos urges Nigerians to embark on commercial farming

The Gbong Gom of Jos and Chairman, Plateau Joint Traditional Council, Da Gyang Buba, has urged Nigerians to embark on commercial  farming.
Buba made the call on Sunday at a thanksgiving service in readiness for the forthcoming Nzem Berom Festival in Jos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Nzem Berom Festival is celebrated every year by the Beroms to usher in the farming season and pray for bumper harvest.
The Berom people are an indigenous ethnic group of the Jos Plateau in Nigeria, mostly found in Jos South, Jos North, Barkin Ladi and Riyom Local Government Areas of the state.
He said the era of laziness had gone, stressing that there was the need for every Nigerian to embrace farming not just  for subsistence but also for commercial purposes.
“We are here to pray for the success of the forthcoming festival; a festival that ushers us into the new farming season.
“Lest use this opportunity to urge all of us to go back to farming because only through that we can make this country economically viable.
“The reality is now dawned on us that the only way to make this country economically strong is by returning to agriculture.
“So, there is no room for excuses, we all need to go back to farming, ” the traditional ruler said.

The Gbong Gom also called on the people of the state to use the occasion the planned festival to pray for the return of total peace in the state. (NAN)
