The Sultan
of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has lauded Gov. Simon Lalong over
the prevailing peace in Plateau.
The Sultan
made the commendation on Monday at the opening of a four-day retreat for
members of Sokoto State Executive Council, Permanent Secretaries and
Directors-General holding in National Instute for Policy and Strategic Studies
(NIPSS), Kuru.
“All of us
are happy to see how peaceful Plateau has become after many years of
hostilities.
“I want to
commend the governor for his tireless efforts at restoring peace in the state.
The sultan
said the retreat for top government functionaries from Sokoto State holding in
NIPSS was a further testimony of the return of peace to the state.
He urged
the governor to keep up the good work, saying that there was no alternative to
peace.
The sultan
also commended Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State for organising the
retreat aimed at improving quality leadership in the state.
He advised
the government to include all the three arms of government and local government
officials in its subsequent retreats.
Chief John
Oyegun, National Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC) in a keynote address
said Nigerian economy was gradually moving out of recession.
Oyegun
said: “our country is making steady progress from the battered economy that the
APC led Federal Government inherited.
“In spite
of the poor state of economy, the fuel price also collapsed and that called for
painful adjustments.
“We are in
the early stages of consolidating a new economic reality of shifting from total
dependence on oil to other areas”, he said.
He lauded
the Sokoto State governor for his efforts toward entrenching the positive
change that the people of the state voted him for.
Tambuwal
said the retreat, the second since he became governor, was for senior
government officials to brainstorm and develop workable policies for the
development of the state.
Tambuwal
noted that the first retreat in December 2015 in Kaduna gave rise to
declaration of the state of emergency in education in Sokoto state to address
anomalies in the sector.
He said
that part of the state government’s desire was to invest in the agricultural
sector as nucleus of the state’s economy.
The
governor said his administration was collaborating with state agencies and the
Federal Government to redirect the sector.
Lalong commended
the Sokoto State Government for choosing Plateau for the retreat which he
said would afford them the opportunity to attest to the fact that peace has
returned.
