The advancement of technology
cannot be over-emphasized without connection with the traditional society. The
heuristic nature of Information Technology/Information Communication Technology
development has aided the development in the technological culture. Culture is
a way of life! The ways and manner we relate to our environment, society and
diaspora. A tradition permeates a
structure and a structure elucidates a culture.
Tradition can be described as
cultivation and promotion of values (habits) which instills conformity in an environment,
village or society. Culture in this regard is the way and manner which a
tradition is preserved, protected and promoted in any society. We can have a
feel of different cultures at a national event or an outreach and not having
the depth of their tradition. Culture is post- dominating while tradition is
pre-dominating!
In Africa, especially in
Nigeria prostration and genuflection are means by which greetings are exchanged
between a young person and an older folk. This is a tradition of some
recognized societal institutions which has been imbibed as a way of life. The
trend , the customs and tradition of the Yorubas; South West Nigeria in
mentioning the following: Aso-Ofi, Agbada, Aran, Kembe, Iro and Buba (Unisex)
and so on are clothes commonly worn at different occasions and everyday life.
Communication is the advent
of technological culture. The scope of communication and technology are
information and idea (C-I-I-T). The literacy of science is the knowledge that
drives the scope to make changes (Which is constant in nature). So the effect
and degree of change is culture. The reason has been that everyone likes to
have a feel of the latest invention especially if it is innocuous and
necessary.
Nothing obsolete about the past because it is the beginning
of today. An advent gives rise to an
advent; we build on the past to have
the future. Communication in the traditional society is carried out by the use
of deity devices. The process is called Oracle! The agents in the names such as
Wizard,Sorcerers, Magicians or Genius usually carry out the process of
communication with the gods (Oracle). They use black/white magic, voodoo is
widely used to visualize and analyze issues best known to the consultants. With
these powers they can satellite and network various agents all across the
globe. In their activities are visible and invisible base stations, a world
wide web for networking with other agents across the universe (Satellite).
Watch Harry Porter movies or the traditional African movies for more black and
white magic respectively.
In essence the nature of the technological
advancement has to do with tradition, customs and values of traditional
society. The global village we are in today has a lot to do with culture. The
use of computer and electronics at homes, offices and schools has become a
necessity fashioned after the developed Countries; imagine the mobile phone
proliferation in the larger economy as a way of life. In fact the economic and
political situation is cultured. Policy making are used to structure the
economy and most of these policies are adopted or imbibed to suit desired
purposes. Every policy comes with a new way of doing things.
In the traditional society,
town criers are used to disseminate information though still in use
surprisingly but the use of media has prevailed over time. Also the use of spiritual
divinity to transmit or receive information has been transformed with the availability
of
fixed and wireless phones plus internet to globalize the world. One major
constraint in the traditional society is that access to easy communication was
restricted but with the advent of technological culture everyone has a willing
and has an unlimited access.
Technological culture has
liberalized communication mediums and has improved the platforms used in the
traditional society. And today is the
future of yesterday so live in the present.
Africa would have been better if they use their voodoo in positive direction. What's the difference between Aircraft and witchcraft??? The former is Positive and the latter is negative
