Miss Tourism Nigeria 2016, Ogenna Ekwubiri
said she would train 50 women and youths under her pet project, “Empower Her
Project.’’
Ekwubiri
made this known in an interview with the Naijaroyaltyculture.com on Monday in Abuja.
According
to her, the training will include commercial awareness, empowerment,
entrepreneurial and leadership skills.
She said
they would also be trained on hat making, clothing/ designing, fabrication and
mechanised farming lasting between three to five weeks.
According
to her, “my vision is more like an internship- apprenticeship situation, in
which the trainee is attached to a company or a mentor where she gets first
hand training on the job.”
She said
at the end of the training, participants would be supplied with working tools
to start.
She added
that the training was to empower women and unemployed youths with various
skills that would generate revenue, employ labour, as well as contribute to the
economy.
Ekwubiri
said it would also be tourism based to improve the sector, as well as
contribute towards, hotel, beverage and hotel management in view of the
dwindling resources in the oil sector.
I choose
this as my pet project because I know women are the future and the future is
now. I hope to empower women, who will in turn empower their families and the
society at large.’’
The
scheme will empower individuals, rather than rely on the government or
corporate organisation for employment,’’ she added.
